The Kent Agreement 1 - Economic Development and Sustainable Communities

Block 4

Overview

Economic prosperity is deliberately placed to the fore because it represents the core of Kent's Supporting Independence Programme which aims to reduce dependency through increasing employment and fulfilment. Partners' own service provision and employment and their ability to facilitate change can influence prosperity in Kent.

Partners are addressing a range of issues which aim to transform the local economy. This includes the skills agenda, supporting initiatives leading to business innovation and productivity gains, supporting entrepreneurship, inward investment and business development initiatives and by investing in infrastructure.

The inclusion of outcomes relating to homes links in with the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister's (ODPM) regional housing strategy. This reflects both the scale of the agenda and the commitment to integrated planning and development to deliver lasting outcomes that promote and improve the prosperity of Kent's people and their communities.

Outcomes

8. To develop the economic prosperity of Kent
13. To increase the capacity of local communities so that people are empowered to participate in local decision-making and are able to influence service delivery.
17. To improve Kent residents' access to homes of excellent quality, in the right place, at the right time and at the right cost.
