Growth Area Delivery Boards - Overview
Kent Thameside
Kent Thameside is one of a small number of key locations
critical to the overall success of the Thames Gateway
and the Sustainable Communities Plan. It has the potential
for up to 30000 new homes and 50000 new jobs, around
new public transport connections, in a green environment,
using difficult brownfield sites. Its success will demonstrate
the potential for accommodating major growth in the
South East in a sustainable way.
The Delivery Board has achieved a great deal in the
last two years, not least the delivery of the Fastrack
service, a new and rapid transport system for the area,
the first phase of which is operational from March 2006.
The realisation of Fastrack's full range of routes and
services will allow residents access to new jobs and
leisure opportunities arising from ongoing regeneration.
As the co-ordinating body for the area, the Delivery
Board has helped developers to realise important schemes,
helping to bring forward major new development proposals
for strategic sites such as the Bridge, Dartford, Northfleet
Embankment and North East Gravesend. It has further
stimulated new private sector investment in significant
mixed use re-development in both Dartford and Gravesham
town centres.
The Delivery Board aims not only to improve the quality
of facilities and services available to the community,
but also to raise community aspirations. It works closely
with the Urban EU funding Programme to support a range
of projects for social inclusion, community access to
learning, business infrastructure and regeneration.
Urban has committed £6.1million to date in response
to the needs of the existing community.

Ashford's Future
Ashford's Future is a partnership of ten key local,
regional and national agencies who have come together
to manage the growth of Ashford. By 2031, Ashford will
have a population twice the size of today's. As well
as homes being built there are many other projects underway
and planned to make Ashford a better place to live,
work and relax.

Swale Forward
Swale Forward, the local regeneration partnership,
is co-ordinating the ODPM's multi-million pound investment
in the area and linking deprived areas to new learning,
employment and leisure opportunities both on-and-off
the Isle of Sheppey, and unlocking sites for redevelopment.
Driving the growth agenda is the Regeneration Framework
developed by Swale Forward, which sets out several key
themes, including economic development, improving education,
skills and training opportunities, regenerating the
town centres, enhancing the environment and focusing
on communities.
