Ashford LSP

Ashford LSP meets every 2 months. It is currently reviewing its 10-year sustainable community strategy, which was launched in 2004, and agreed it's action plan in 2006. The LSP has an executive board and no sub groups, but has a "network of networks" who can work on specific projects.

Key issues for Ashford LSP include:

  • Continuing the transformation of Ashford Town Centre and providing a wider cultural offering
  • Securing modern sustainable employment opportunities
  • Using innovative private and public funding mechanisms to source infrastructure at the time of growth
  • Making improvements to the transport network serving the borough
  • Ensuring effective public services, particularly health and education provision, that meets the needs of residents in the borough
  • Providing good social and community facilities for both existing communities and in line with future growth

Canterbury LSP

Canterbury LSP reviewed it's sustainable community strategy "All Together Now" in 2005. It is now working with Experian on "Canterbury Futures" - exploring potential future scenarios for the district over the next 25 years. This work is informing a comprehensive review of the sustainable community strategy that is due for completion in February 2008. The LSP has an executive board and 6 sub groups to match the 6 themes in the current community strategy.

Key issues for Canterbury LSP include:

  • Tourism and cultural economy
  • Improving public transport and reducing congestion
  • Matching local skills to local jobs
  • Improving areas experiencing the most hardship
  • Developing an strong and successful economy
  • Encouraging healthier and safer communities

Dover LSP

Dover LSP is currently undergoing a structural review and is also reviewing its sustainable community strategy. Dover is also a Joint Board pilot area.

Key issues for Dover LSP include:

  • Transport, infrastructure and access to services/information
  • Providing skills and education to create a trained and motivated workforce
  • Waste reduction, recycling, energy efficiency and promotion/protection of the countryside
  • Traffic and pollution (especially from freight)
  • Encouraging investment and new jobs
  • Tackling social problems in deprived areas.

Dartford & Gravesham LSP

Dartford & Gravesham LSP is a joint partnership that covers both districts. It has a public service board, partnership board and community forum that reflect the co-terminus boundaries of their joint CDRP. The LSP is preparing to revise its joint sustainable community strategy in summer/autumn 2007.

Key issues for Dartford & Gravesham LSP include:

  • Community safety, including drug & alcohol misuse and youth offending
  • Childhood obesity and teenage pregnancy
  • Regeneration and growth, including transport infrastructure
  • Delivering sustainable regeneration which benefits local communities
  • Improved housing and cultural facilities and preserving the green belt
  • Improving local skills base to match employment opportunities

Maidstone LSP

Maidstone LSP is currently working on 24 headline projects which help to implement the sustainable community strategy "Maidstone Matters". The LSP has a flexible structure that includes a board, annual public meeting, sub/theme/working groups and a policy group. A review of the community strategy is due in 2007.

Key issues for Maidstone LSP include:

  • Teenage pregnancy
  • Up-skilling of young people, with a particular focus on those not in education, employment or training (NEETs)
  • Regeneration in disadvantaged areas
  • Influence of the growth areas of Ashford and the Thames Gateway
  • Attracting more residential and high quality development
  • Reducing congestion, improving infrastructure and public transport

Shepway LSP

Shepway LSP launched its new sustainable community strategy "Sharing in Success" in March 2007. All partners in the LSP have a place on the LSP board. The LSP also have links to Parish Councils, Youth Forum and Highway Consultative Forum.

Key issues for Shepway LSP include:

  • Community safety
  • Regeneration (Shepway has a regeneration partnership in Folkestone called the Creative Foundation)
  • Attracting new investment and employment opportunities
  • Challenges and opportunities of an ageing population
  • Preserving the long coastline and rural areas
  • Transport infrastructure

Swale LSP

Swale LSP has recently revised its structures to include an executive board, 3 working groups and a wider stakeholder forum. There will be a new chairman and greater democratic accountability through involvement of District Council Portfolio Holders. The LSP has published its sustainable community strategy "Priority Swale" in 2006 and is now working towards delivering the action plan.

Key Issues for Swale LSP include:

  • Education
  • Economic development
  • Facilities for and engagement of young people
  • Large proposed housing growth
  • Improving skills and lifelong learning
  • Protecting the natural environment

Thanet LSP

Thanet LSP has an independent chairman and a board structure. The LSP is currently working towards the implementation of the sustainable community strategy. This is reviewed annually and includes a consultation with local communities.

Key issues for Thanet LSP include:

  • Prosperous, thriving economy with job and training opportunities for all
  • Opportunities, facilities and activities for young people
  • Community safety, social and recreational activities
  • Tourism, retail and cultural economy
  • Supporting vulnerable people
  • Improving transport links to London

West Kent Partnership

West Kent Partnership represents three districts - Sevenoaks, Tonbridge & Malling and Tunbridge Wells. The LSP is closely linked to each of the three district sustainable community strategies which directly deal with local issues. Sevenoaks & Tunbridge Wells have their own Community Plan Partnerships. West Kent Partnership also works towards projects which are of common interest to all three districts.
